Sunday 13th October 2019

17 Sunday after Trinity

Welcome to Christ Church

Please, help us to create a prayerful atmosphere before the service. Thank you!

If you are new, please, fill in a sheet (blue basket @ door). We welcome children in church. We now have a children’s corner at the side of the church where they will find toys, books, colouring, activity sheets and a play mat for babies. If your child(ren) become(s) noisy, it might be an idea to take them out until they settle. Feel free to use the hall.

Introit Hymn 293 Lead us, heavenly father, lead us (tune 1)

The Collect

Almighty God, you have made us for yourself, and our hearts are restless till they find their rest in you: pour your love into our hearts and draw us to yourself, and so bring us at last to your heavenly city where we shall see you face to face; through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord, who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.

First Reading 2 Kings 5: 1-3, 7-15c

Second Reading 2 Timothy 2: 8-15

Remember Jesus Christ, raised from the dead, a descendant of David – that is my gospel, for which I suffer hardship, even to the point of being chained like a criminal. But the word of God is not chained. Therefore I endure everything for the sake of the elect, so that they may also obtain the salvation that is in Christ Jesus, with eternal glory. The saying is sure: If we have died with him, we will also live with him; if we endure, we will also reign with him; if we deny him, he will also deny us; if we are faithless, he remains faithful – for he cannot deny himself. Remind them of this, and warn them before God that they are to avoid wrangling over words, which does no good but only ruins those who are listening. Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved by him, a worker who has no need to be ashamed, rightly explaining the word of truth.

Gradual Hymn 261 Jesu lover of my soul (tune 1)

Gospel Luke 17: 11-19

On the way to Jerusalem Jesus was going through the region between Samaria and Galilee. As he entered a village, ten lepers approached him. Keeping their distance, they called out, saying, ‘Jesus, Master, have mercy on us!’ When he saw them, he said to them, ‘Go and show yourselves to the priests.’ And as they went, they were made clean. Then one of them, when he saw that he was healed, turned back, praising God with a loud voice. He prostrated himself at Jesus’ feet and thanked him. And he was a Samaritan. Then Jesus asked, ‘Were not ten made clean? But the other nine, where are they? Was none of them found to return and give praise to God except this foreigner?’ Then he said to the Samaritan, ‘Get up and go on your way; your faith has made you well.’

Offertory Hymn: 319 Lord, we come to ask your healing

Communion Hymn 61 Bless the Lord, my soul

52 Be still and know

Post Communion Prayer

Lord of heaven, in this Eucharist you have brought us near to an innumerable company of angels and to the spirits of the saints made perfect: as in this food of our earthly pilgrimage we have shared their fellowship, so may we come to share their joy in heaven; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Thanksgiving Hymn Lord, I lift your name on high

Keeping Christ Church Solvent

Thanks to all who, in the last 12 months have responded in some way to help balance the books. We have some new standing orders and some increased standing orders or planned giving envelopes. We still have a way to go! Yet to respond? It’s not too late. If 50 people give an extra £1 a week - that’s an extra £3,250 (with gift aid). That’s a start.

Please, speak to Wendy Holloway, Catherine Champney or Sue Peach about ways in which you can help.

Exploring Faith

The morning group will meet at 9.10am on 28th October & 18th November. The evening group will meet at 8pm on 14th October & 18th November. No meetings in December. The groups will continue in the new year. Do let Mtr Ariadne know if you are interested in joining.

Nearly New Sale

Many thanks to all those who supported our Nearly New Sale! It was a good opportunity for members of the community to find bargains and/or to sell unwanted items.

Our Harvest Festival was on 6th October. We are still collecting items for Housing for Women. They are in desperate need of food items and toiletries. We will also be collecting money for USPG. There is a basket on the font for USPG donations. Many thanks.

Enid has booked seats for us at the Bob Hope Theatre, Eltham for Snow White and the 7 Dwarves on 12th January 2020 at 2pm. Tickets cost £13 for adults; £10 for children & concessions. Please, let Enid or Mtr Ariadne know if you would like to buy tickets.

Site Development

Good news! The Diocese have given us positive feedback about the proposals for our site. We expect the Diocese to give us formal approval soon. We are working with a very keen and pro-active architect/developer, who is anxious to start the project. We hope to be able to present more developed plans before too long.
