CHRIST CHURCH SHOOTERS HILL
Sunday 19th June 2016
Trinity 4, Year C
Welcome to Christ Church
Please, help us to create a prayerful atmosphere before the service. Thank you!
If you are new please fill in a sheet (blue basket @ door). We welcome children in church. We now have a children’s corner at the side of the church where they will find toys, books, colouring, activity sheets and a play mat for babies. If they become noisy, it might be an idea to take them out until they settle.
Introit Hymn 13 (tune 1) All hail the power of Jesus’ name
The Collect
O God, the protector of all who trust in you, without whom nothing is strong, nothing is holy: increase and multiply upon us your mercy; that with you as our ruler and guide we may so pass through things temporal that we lose not our hold on things eternal; grant this, heavenly Father, for our Lord Jesus Christ’s sake, who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.
First Reading Isaiah 65: 1 - 9
Second Reading Galatians 3: 23 - 29
Before faith came, we were imprisoned and guarded under the law until faith would be revealed. Therefore the law was our disciplinarian until Christ came, so that we might be justified by faith. But now that faith has come, we are no longer subject to a disciplinarian, for in Christ Jesus you are all children of God through faith. As many of you as were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ; There is no longer Jew or Greek, there is no longer slave or free, there is no longer male and female; for all of you are one in Christ Jesus. And if you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham’s offspring, heirs according to the promise.
Gradual Hymn 52 Be still and know
Gospel Luke 8: 26 – 39
Jesus and his disciples arrived at the country of the Gerasenes, which is opposite Galilee. As he stepped out on land, a man of the city who had demons met him. For a long time he had worn no clothes, and he did not live in a house but in the tombs. When he saw Jesus, he fell down before him and shouted at the top of his voice, ‘What have you to do with me, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? I beg you, do not torment me’ – for Jesus had commanded the unclean spirit to come out of the man. (For many times it had seized him; he was kept under guard and bound with chains and shackles, but he would break the bonds and be driven by the demon into the wilds.) Jesus then asked him, ‘What is your name?’ He said, ‘Legion’; for many demons had entered him. They begged him not to order them to go back into the abyss. Now there on the hillside a large herd of swine was feeding; and the demons begged Jesus to let them enter these. So he gave them permission. Then the demons came out of the man and entered the swine, and the herd rushed down the steep bank into the lake and was drowned. When the swineherds saw what had happened, they ran off and told it in the city and in the country. Then people came out to see what had happened, and when they came to Jesus, they found the man from whom the demons had gone sitting at the feet of Jesus, clothed and in his right mind. And they were afraid. Those who had seen it told them how the one who had been possessed by demons had been healed. Then all the people of the surrounding country of the Gerasenes asked Jesus to leave them; for they were seized with great fear. So he got into the boat and returned. The man from whom the demons had gone begged that he might be with him; but Jesus sent him away, saying, ‘Return to your home, and declare how much God has done for you.’ So he went away, proclaiming throughout the city how much Jesus had done for him.

Eternal God, comfort of the afflicted and healer of the broken, you have fed us at the table of life and hope: teach us the ways of gentleness and peace, that all the world may acknowledge the kingdom of your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Parish Survey
The first few completed surveys have been received. Do, please, make sure that you fill in yours and hand it in. This is your chance to make known how you feel about CC, our services and our ministry. Your opinion matters to us. The survey will be handed out throughout June. Please, make sure you complete a survey. Thank you! You can also get an e-copy of the survey, if you prefer. Please, contact Deborah Dumville about these. deborah_maclaren@themediasaleshouse.co.uk
Confirmation Service
The Confirmation Service will be on July 17th at 9.30am. Several adults and young people will be confirmed and some children will be admitted to communion. Please, come and support these candidates, as they take a big step on their faith journey. There will be refreshments after the service
International Street Food Event
We are having our second International Street Food event on 10th July. Calling all cooks and bakers to produce fabulous dishes from cuisines from all over the world. Last year, we had Korean, West African, Chinese, Italian and British food. Can we better that this year? Do let Debs Dumville know if you can help (we need volunteers to sell cakes and tickets as well, so if you are culinarily challenged there is still plenty you can do to help…) Thank you!
Pantomime
It’s still only May, but Enid has already booked this year’s Pantomime: Peter Pan, 4th December 2016 at Greenwich Theatre. If you are interested in buying a ticket, please, contact Enid (enidolding123@btinternet.com)
Working Party
Ours is quite a big site and being on the edge of the woods means that we are constantly battling seedlings, brambles etc. While there is much more to being church than having nice grounds, it helps when the church grounds look neat and tidy and it is also safer. John and Robert are struggling to maintain the grounds by themselves and could use more helpers. At the beginning of this month, they managed to cut the grass at the front, but the grounds desperately need some weeding and the grounds behind the church need cutting, too. If you can help, please let John Halford know. Working Party is usually on the first Saturday of the month between 8.30am and 10am. The next one will be on 2nd July. Thank you.
