CHRIST CHURCH SHOOTERS HILL

Sunday 22nd May 2016

Trinity, Year C

Welcome to Christ Church

Please, help us to create a prayerful atmosphere before the service. Thank you!

If you are new please fill in a sheet (blue basket @ door). We welcome children in church. We now have a children’s corner at the side of the church where they will find toys, books, colouring, activity sheets and a play mat for babies. If they become noisy, it might be an idea to take them out until they settle.

The Collect

Almighty and everlasting God, you have given us your servants grace, by the confession of a true faith, to acknowledge the glory of the eternal Trinity and in the power of the divine majesty to worship the Unity: keep us steadfast in this faith, that we may evermore be defended from all adversities; through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord, who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever.

First Reading Proverbs 8: 1-4, 22-31

Does not wisdom call, and does not understanding raise her voice? On the heights, beside the way, at the crossroads she takes her stand; beside the gates in front of the town, at the entrance of the portals she cries out: ‘To you, O people, I call, and my cry is to all that live. The LORD created me at the beginning of his work, the first of his acts of long ago. Ages ago I was set up, at the first, before the beginning of the earth. When there were no depths I was brought forth, when there were no springs abounding with water. Before the mountains had been shaped, before the hills, I was brought forth – when he had not yet made earth and fields, or the world’s first bits of soil. When he established the heavens, I was there, when he drew a circle on the face of the deep, when he made firm the skies above, when he established the fountains of the deep, when he assigned to the sea its limit, so that the waters might not transgress his command, when he marked out the foundations of the earth, then I was beside him, like a master worker; and I was daily his delight, rejoicing before him always, rejoicing in his inhabited world and delighting in the human race.

Second Reading Romans 5: 1-5

Since we are justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have obtained access to this grace in which we stand; and we boast in our hope of sharing the glory of God. And not only that, but we also boast in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, and hope does not disappoint us, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit that has been given to us.

Gospel John 16: 12-15

Jesus said to his disciples: ‘I still have many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now. When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth; for he will not speak on his own, but will speak whatever he hears, and he will declare to you the things that are to come. He will glorify me, because he will take what is mine and declare it to you. All that the Father has is mine. For this reason I said that he will take what is mine and declare it to you.’

Post Communion Prayer

Almighty and eternal God, you have revealed yourself as Father, Son and Holy Spirit, and live and reign in the perfect unity of love: hold us firm in this faith, that we may know you in all your ways and evermore rejoice in your eternal glory, who are three Persons yet one God, now and for ever.

Slideshow about Kenya and Malawi

Sue and Mtr Ariadne will be showing photos of their time in Africa and speaking about their experiences on Saturday 11th June at 10am. Refreshments (brunch and cake) provided. Caroline Lester will be doing a creative session for children and Sue will tell the children her hippo story. It would be good to have an indication of how many people we should cater for, so can you let Mtr Ariadne know, preferably by email, whether you intend to be there? Thanks.

Parishioners’ Meeting

No churchwardens were nominated at the meeting. We desperately need two people to come forward to serve as wardens. We really can’t run this parish without wardens. Please, consider whether God may be calling you to this very important ministry.

Admission to Communion

Deji, Jack, Red, Elwood, Kirsty, Scarlett, Baydon, Andre and James are doing the Admission to Communion Course. As part of their course they have been asked to talk to people in church – the living stones of our church. Please, take time to talk to them and to help them fill in their sheets (and please help encourage them to talk to people they do not know rather than people they know well. Thank you!

Confirmation Service

Our Confirmation Service will be on July 17th at 9.30am. There won’t be Messy Church on that Sunday. Instead, we are hoping that everyone will come to the Confirmation Service. In this service, several adults and young people will be confirmed and the children doing the Admission to Communion course will be admitted to communion. Please, come and support these candidates, as they take a big step on their faith journey. The Bishop of Southwark will lead the service.

Confirmation Course

A new confirmation course for adults will start in September. If you’d like to explore being confirmed (and baptised) or if you would just like to explore your faith some more, please let Mtr Ariadne know.

Thank you

Sue Floyd would like to thank all who generously supported the fund raising events for Lorna's special cancer treatment. Nearly £15,000 has been raised so far. Well done everyone!"

End of Christian Aid Week

Please, return your CA envelopes as soon as possible. Thank you!
