Electoral Roll / Parishioners Meeting / APCM
Our Parishioners Meeting (PM) & Annual Parochial Church Meeting (APCM) will be held on Sunday 19th May 2024. The PM elects Church Wardens and the APCM elects PCC members. There are vacancies for Church Wardens (elected every year) and for PCC members (elected for a 3 year term). The APCM also receives the annual report of activities in our parish and can ask questions about our mission as a church. As a Church of England parish, we have to follow the rules set by the Church of England. These rules state who can and can’t attend these meetings; speak at them or vote. All those who live in the parish and/or are on our electoral roll can attend the PM. Those who are on our electoral role can attend the APCM.
You can check whether you live in the parish on the A Church Near You website or the list on the church door.
Are you on the current electoral roll? Check the list on the porch noticeboard.
If you are not on the electoral roll - take an application form (conditions apply) and return by 14th April (place in box). For more information speak to Sue Peach or the sidesperson on duty.
Let the light shine
This is a very exciting time for our church. There are wonderful plans for our site. We are currently going through two planning application processes (Council and Diocese). If all goes well, we will be able to start work on building a wonderful new hall for our parish, which will benefit us and the wider community and will help us serve our parish.
We are hoping to be able to carry out some improvements to the church building as well. One thing that is very much needed is to update our lighting. The light fittings are not the most recent and not LED-compatible. Replacing the fittings will help us to reduce our carbon footprint. It should also make the church lighter and brighter. This is all part of making our site and buildings more accessible, more user-friendly and more inviting.
All of these plans will cost money. We are confident that we have finances in place for the building of the hall, but this does not include the lighting in church. We are looking to raise about £5,000 for the lighting, which will then enable us to apply for grants for the rest of the cost.
There are many ways in which you can contribute to making Christ Church lighter and brighter. You could make a bank transfer or use the CollecTin in church (do be aware that SumUp take a percentage of any donation made via the CollecTin). You could also set up a Standing Order to the church and make a weekly or monthly contribution to the lighting campaign. Please, do use reference 'lighting' and, if a tax-payer, make sure that you have filled in a Gift Aid form so that we can claim back the tax from HMRC.
Thank you for your support in keeping the lights on!
What's on
Confirmation Course
A bishop has been found to confirm our candidates on 21st July.
It may still be possible for others to join.
Do let Mtr Ariadne know if you are interested or if someone you know is.
Admission to Communion
A new Admission to Communion course will start in June. This course is open to any child in Year 3 or above who would like to take this important step on their faith journey.
If your child is interested, it would be helpful if they could attend Eucharists as often as possible between now and the start of the course, especially if they don't normally attend this service.
It makes the course much easier if the children have an idea of what a Eucharist is.
Do let Mtr Ariadne know if your child is interested in being admitted to Communion.
Plant Sale
The next Christ Church Plant Sale will take place on Sunday 5th May 11.30am-1pm.
Please put this date in your diary.
We would welcome donations of seedlings and both indoor and outdoor plants.
If anyone has plant pots that they would be willing to donate before the plant sale, I am sure the gardeners in our congregations would be grateful.
If you are more of a baker than a gardener, we would love donations of cakes for a cake stall at the event.
Our Church on the Hill
Welcome
Christ Church Shooters Hill is an Anglican (Church of England) Church in the modern Catholic tradition. We are a friendly congregation drawn largely from the local community and reflecting the rich diversity of this part of London. We aim to be an inclusive church welcoming everyone, whatever their age, background, sexuality or relationship status and regardless of how much or how little faith they may have. Honest doubters and people with questions are positively welcomed!
Our Vision
We believe that all people are created in the image of God, and that all are called by God into a loving, dynamic and transformative relationship with him, through the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, his Son and through the power of the Holy Spirit.
Mission
God is at the heart of all we do at Christ Church.
We aim to be a church of welcome and warmth. We are inclusive and welcome people of all ages, backgrounds and cultures.
We aspire to be a presence within our locality, using the resources we have to enrich the life of people within the community.
We are a broad church and our different services reflect this.
We have a commitment to the local community, also beyond the parish into the borough and to the Church overseas.
Safeguarding
The parish of Christ Church Shooters Hill takes the safeguarding and care of children and vulnerable adults very seriously. Further information about this can be found at the Safeguarding section.
