CHRIST CHURCH SHOOTERS HILL
Sunday 16th June 2019
Trinity Sunday, Year C
Welcome to Christ Church
Please, help us to create a prayerful atmosphere before the service. Thank you!
If you are new, please, fill in a sheet (blue basket @ door). We welcome children in church. We now have a children’s corner at the side of the church where they will find toys, books, colouring, activity sheets and a play mat for babies. If your child(ren) become(s) noisy, it might be an idea to take them out until they settle. Feel free to use the hall.
Introit Hymn 212 Holy, holy, holy, Lord God almighty
Almighty and everlasting God, you have given us your servants grace, by the confession of a true faith, to acknowledge the glory of the eternal Trinity and in the power of the divine majesty to worship the Unity: keep us steadfast in this faith, that we may evermore be defended from all adversities; through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord, who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen
First Reading Proverbs 8: 1-4, 22-31
Does not wisdom call, and does not understanding raise her voice? On the heights, beside the way, at the crossroads she takes her stand; beside the gates in front of the town, at the entrance of the portals she cries out: ‘To you, O people, I call, and my cry is to all that live. The LORD created me at the beginning of his work, the first of his acts of long ago. Ages ago I was set up, at the first, before the beginning of the earth. When there were no depths I was brought forth, when there were no springs abounding with water. Before the mountains had been shaped, before the hills, I was brought forth –
when he had not yet made earth and fields, or the world’s first bits of soil. When he established the heavens, I was there, when he drew a circle on the face of the deep, when he made firm the skies above, when he established the fountains of the deep, when he assigned to the sea its limit, so that the waters might not transgress his command, when he marked out the foundations of the earth, then I was beside him, like a master worker; and I was daily his delight, rejoicing before him always, rejoicing in his inhabited world and delighting in the human race.
Second Reading Romans 5: 1-5
Since we are justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have obtained access to this grace in which we stand; and we boast in our hope of sharing the glory of God. And not only that, but we also boast in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, and hope does not disappoint us, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit that has been given to us.
Gradual Hymn 124 Father of heaven
Gospel John 16: 12-15
Jesus said to his disciples: ‘I still have many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now. When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth; for he will not speak on his own, but will speak whatever he hears, and he will declare to you the things that are to come. He will glorify me, because he will take what is mine and declare it to you. All that the Father has is mine. For this reason I said that he will take what is mine and declare it to you.’
Offertory Hymn: 225 I bind unto myself, today
Communion Hymn 67 Bread of heaven, on thee we feed
126 Father, we love you
Post Communion Prayer
Almighty and eternal God, you have revealed yourself as Father, Son and Holy Spirit, and live and reign in the perfect unity of love: hold us firm in this faith,
that we may know you in all your ways and evermore rejoice in your eternal glory, who are three Persons yet one God, now and for ever. Amen.
Thanksgiving Hymn 317 Lord, the light of your love
The evening group will meet on 1st July at 8pm. The morning group will meet on 17th June at 9.10am. In September, we will be starting new courses/books for both groups. Do let Mtr Ariadne know if you might be interested in joining either group. We meet monthly on Mondays.
Lots of volunteering opportunities: we are looking for: Treasurer; USPG Champion; someone to put the notice sheets together; a Hall Manager; Social Media Manager; new chairperson/coordinator of the Communications Committee; new co-ordinator of the Toddler Play Group. Please, speak to Sue Peach, Ngozi Uduku or Mtr Ariadne if you might be able to help. Thank you!
Admission to Communion
The children will be admitted to Communion at the Eucharist on 7th July at 10am.
Precarious Financial Situation
Our financial situation is now becoming very serious indeed. For the last 7 or so years we have been living on our reserves. Those reserves have now been depleted. We are fast approaching a situation where we won’t be able to meet our bills anymore. Please, do everything you can to help us avoid this situation. Please, speak to Wendy Holloway, Catherine Champney or Sue Peach about ways in which you can help. Thank you! Many thanks to those who have increased their giving recently!
Christian Aid Week!
This year, the focus of Christian Aid week is the high number of women in Sierra Leone who die during childbirth. Sierra Leone is apparently the most dangerous country in the world when it comes to giving birth. Please, help Christian Aid to provide better health care and services for expectant mothers. Please, do return your Christian Aid envelopes to church so we can send the money to Christian Aid. Many thanks.
International Street Food Festival
The ISFF will be on 20th July. Please, do have a think about whether you could cook some food and if so what. Do speak to Olivia, Enid or Mtr Ariadne. Many thanks!
